Sign Language and Visual Vernacular: the art of non-verbal communication

As a professional dancer all my life, I always perceive everything in relation to dance and movement. For me, body language, both the conscious one, that is, “the sign languages of the world” and the unconscious one: that which expresses what our mouths keep silent, are forms of constant communication between human beings. “Visual Vernacular” is an art form that combines sign language with mime, poetry and all the expressiveness of the artist. I have been in contact with dance for more than 35 years and with sign languages since 2007, so for me communicating with my body is as natural as communicating with spoken languages. Helping and influencing other polyglots to also use their motor skills and facial expressions and hand gestures is something that I can contribute through my experience in non-verbal communication and body gestures and movements.
